​​​ END OF YEAR BBQ 7 & 8 DECEMBER 2024. Combined TTC & WTC.  The Venue:  MiCamp Ruapehu accommodation complex at 4 Mill St, Kakahi. (Was Youth Haven) For more information and directions. Club members can stay overnight in cabins for $45-00. Need to take your own sleeping bag and pillow.  What to bring:-Take your own meat for the BBQ. There is bench seating, chairs, and tables for putting food on. The Tramping club will supply the Coleslaw, salad, hot water, tea, milo, milk, and sugar.  The BBQ will commence at about 6pm.  PROGRAMME: Saturday - Lairdvale Farm Walk This is a 10Km 4hour loop walk up onto a high ridge around the top of the Lairdvale Valley. On a fine day extensive views can be obtained looking down at the different parts of Taumarunui and Manunui. The walk is hilly and there are no tracks. Once up on the main ridge is easy going to our lunch spot. In the afternoon it is a downhill descent back to the cars. No transport costs.  Sunday  - Kakahi walk.  A stroll around the interesting historical township of Kakahi with local guides to point out things of interest. Will visit the store, old buildings, gardens, and other scenic attractions and lunch at a picnic site. We will be hosting the Wanganui Tramping Club with these activities. Contact Peter 027 605 0847

TANGARAKAU 11 - 12 JANUARY 2025. Weekend tramp into the Tangarakau area. This will be my last trip to my favourite camping site where I will share it with others. Access to the very remote site is over old tracks in native bush. The campsite is on a hill top with 360 degrees for amazing sunsets and rises on the Taranaki and Tongariro mountains. Need to be self-sufficient with camping gear for the overnight stay.  Plan to stay at the Bushlands motor camp Friday evening and return late Sunday afternoon.  Transport cost $25.  Contact Peter 027 605 0847.

 

GOAT MARSHALLING EVENT 17 - 18 January 2025. An adventure 20km run on Round the Mountain Track. The Programme: Friday evening 17th January.           Travel to Ohakune where Lodge accommodation is provided free of charge. (Most marshals' head home Saturday evening after the BBQ, but you can stay another night free of charge if you want to.) A briefing will be given at the lodge about our tasks. Saturday 18th January.  A lunch package is provided free of charge. We travel up the Turoa Mountain road to the around the mountain track that leads to the Mangaturuturu Hut. Our Marshalling area is between the Turoa Mountain Road and Lake Surprise. We set off as a group and every marshalling point is established with 2 people. Our task is to give the competitors encouragement and make sure they are OK. After the last competitor has finished, we head back to our lodge for showers and a change of clothes. A BBQ dinner is provided free of charge at the Powderhorn. After dinner we return home. The rewards: Helping organisers run the event. Being on a very scenic part the mountain. . Getting a smile and words of appreciation from the competitors. The organisers donate about $100 to each member who does the Marshalling. Each member can use the payment for themselves or as some have done in the past, donated it to Project Tongariro, Owhango Live, Search and Rescue or a charity of their choice. The requirements:   You need to be able to carry a day pack with gear to cope with all mountain weather conditions. AUCKLAND ANNIVERSARY WEEKEND 24 – 27 January 2025. The Whanganui Tramping Club will be hosting our club. The Whanganui Boys and Girls Gym club will be booked for our accommodation. It has very good with access to all facilities and showers. Very comfortable lounge rooms with TV etc. Bunks 4 people to a room at $30-00 per night per person. Look on the website Group Accommodation - Whanganui Boys and Girls Gym Club (whanganuigymclub.co.nz)  Saturday: Mangawhio Lakes at the Waitotara Valley north of Whanganui. We will go up to the Mangawhio Lake which dropped 8 metres in the 2015 storm. Will have a Special leader and Guide by one of the Whanganui members who was born and bred there. Saturday evening will be a pot luck meal. Sunday:.We will do the iconic Manawatu Gorge Track. A chance to check out the progress on the new road and impressive new bridge. CLUB BBQ TARINGMUTU 12 February 2025. The BBQ will start approx.  5-30pm. DIRECTIONS - Golf Rd Roundabout, Taringamutu Road 1km, look left for the TAUMARUNUI TRAMPING CLUB sign.  Drive through and follow the arrows to a rocky stream - please close all gates. Bring camp chairs, own food/drink, utensils & insect repellent. There will be a hot plate for cooking and hot water. Contact Peter 027 605 0847

HIKUMUTU ‘TIN POT’ WALK 1 March 2025. “Tin Pot” was a meeting place on the junction of the Kawautahi and Kirikau coach roads in the early 1900’s. We will be joining up with the Taupo Tramping Club and have a guide who lived in the area that will be able tell all the stories and history. It is a nice 14Km day walk with good views and a bit of history. Transport cost $5-00. Contact Peter 027 605 0847

WEEKEND AT BUSHLANDS CAMPGROUND TANGARAKAU 21, 22, 23 March.  There is the option of driving to the camp on Friday afternoon or making an early start on Saturday morning. Saturday there will be a choice of day and half day walks that will be suitable for all standards of fitness. Sunday there will be an easy 5km walk to the canyon on a well-formed farm track following the Tangarakau River.  After lunch at the Camp we will return home. Accommodation There is cabin accommodation for $55 per person per night.  There is an unlimited area for tent sites, caravans and campervans.  $20 / person per night. The camp has basic facilities: Kitchen area, ablutions block and Gas BBQs.  There are some cooking and eating utensils but to be sure I would advise you to take your own. Take your own tea towels. Take your own food for dinner Friday evening, breakfasts, snacks & lunches. If you require a cabin you will need to book as soon as possible. THE PINNACLES MOUNT RUAPEHU 29 March 2025. This will be an off track 12km loop to the base of the Pinnacles on Mt Ruapehu. A great tramp with great views of the park looking over towards the Top O Bruce. Some long uphill grades, moderate amount of fitness required. Transport cost $12-00. WAITAANGA FOREST PARK OVERNITER 5 - 6 April 2025.  Leaving early Saturday morning and walk to the Te Rerepahupahu Falls on an old bush tramway on a marked track. From the falls we will follow the river downstream to a bush campsite. Sunday we will return the same way back to or vehicles. Need gear and food for an overnight stay.
